"The Iowa Republican Party added a plank to its platform draft this week stating that all candidates for president “must show proof of being a ‘natural-born citizen.’” Don Racheter, chairman of the party’s platform committee, explained that this is “a shot” at Mr. Obama. “There are many Republicans who feel that Barack Obama is not a ‘natural-born citizen’ because his father was not an American when he was born.”
This “shot” comes on the heels of the Arizona secretary of state, Ken Bennett, demanding that Hawaii prove it is in possession of Mr. Obama’s birth certificate. He does not seem to care that Hawaii has already given ample proof. But TPM reports that the Hawaiian authorities do care. They’ve demanded that Mr. Bennett prove he is in possession of the power to demand that Hawaii prove it is in possession of the document.
Mr. Bennett is not just your ordinary, garden-variety birther. He is co-chairman of the Mitt Romney campaign in Arizona. Mr. Romney should disavow this “investigation.” Or make Mr. Bennett stop it. Or kick him off the campaign. Or better yet, disavow the investigation, make Mr. Bennett stop it – and then kick him off the campaign."
