(Nov. 18, 2016) — Speaking at a press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday, Barack Hussein Obama vaguely criticized “misinformation” posted on the internet made to look official, particularly as it might involve “some overzealousness on the part of a U.S. official…equated with constant and severe repression elsewhere.”
He did not provide any names of who he might have had in mind when making his remarks.
His comments appeared to amplify those he made the day before the U.S. elections when he said that “as long as it’s on Facebook and people can see it, as long as it’s on social media, people start believing it.”
“If everything seems to be the same and no distinctions are made, then we won’t know what to protect,” Obama continued in Germany. “We won’t know what to fight for,” he said, referring to “the kind of democratic freedoms and market-based economies and prosperity we’ve come to take for granted.”
However, on April 27, 2011, an image purported to be a scan of a certified copy of Obama’s long-form birth certificate held by the Hawaii Department of Health was uploaded to the White House website was declared a forgery by experts within days and found by a team of criminal investigators to be a “computer-generated forgery” less than a year later.
