Conservative activist’s “citizen grand jury” indicts Obama

A former federal prosecutor who has gained national attention for his legal pursuits of some of the nation’s most powerful political figures has brought his fight to Ocala.
Larry Klayman, the founder of political watchdog groups Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, organized what he called a citizens grand jury for the third time this week seeking “indictments” against President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, among others.
The Ocala panel, Klayman said, did indict those and other members of the Obama administration, as well as two Supreme Court justices and key officials with the IRS on charges ranging from divulging national security secrets to involuntary manslaughter.
“We put this together because of the lack of responsiveness in Washington,” Klayman said Tuesday, hours after the grand jury finished meeting. “The American people need to be shown that we have the future in our hands, our destiny.”
Among the indictments handed down by Klayman's grand jury were:
- President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, for publicly identifying SEAL Team 6 as the unit that killed Osama bin Laden. Klayman argues doing so made the SEALs a target of insurgents and led to a recent deadly attack on SEAL commandos in Afghanistan. Klayman said the grand jury determined there is probable cause to charge Obama and Biden with involuntary manslaughter.
- Obama, Clinton and Holder for allegedly leaking to a New York Times reporter information about the cyberwarfare capability of the United States. Klayman noted the irony of the FBI collecting phone records of Associated Press reporters to identify an anonymous source who leaked information about a thwarted terrorist attack “when they themselves leaked much more sensitive information.”
- Top IRS officials, for misusing the agency's power to target tea party groups.
- U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, for allowing fellow Justice Elena Kagan to participate in the deliberations on the constitutionality of the Patient Care and Affordability Act, also known as Obamacare. Klayman believes Kagan was biased because, prior to her appointment to the court, she defended the healthcare law as U.S. solicitor general.
According to Klayman, those who were indicted will be arraigned, then publicly tried sometime in June or July here in Ocala. Klayman is looking for a judge or retired judge to preside over the trial.
“If they don't show (for the arraignment), we will enter a not-guilty plea for them and they will be tried in absentia,” he said.
While grand juries have historically been run by state or federal prosecutors and overseen by sitting judges, Klayman claims that citizens — and not the judiciary — have the authority to conduct them.
But Klayman is viewed in some circles as someone who is always looking for a legal angle to attack the establishment.
During the Clinton administration, he sued the president more than a dozen times and took depositions from some of the most powerful people in Washington. He is also an author and columnist who peppers his work with sarcastic references to Obama as the “mullah in chief” and has intimated that the Clintons had their political opponents killed. But such vitriol has endeared him to many tea party groups who, like Klayman, regard Obama as un-American at best, or even a foreigner bent on the nation's destruction.
Local tea party members even aided Klayman in running his grand jury proceedings this week.
“I believe what he's doing is the right way to go about making the federal government responsive to the people,” Tea Party Solutions President Stephen Hunter said. “There's two alternatives: 1776 all over again or complete capitulation to a communist, socialist society.”
Klayman's critics abound.
“Tea Party groups should do their homework before getting involved with Larry Klayman,” said Josh Glasstetter, research director for People for the American Way in Washington, D.C. People for the American Way publishes a website called “Right Wing Watch.”
“If they took the time to look, they'd find a long record of scandal, failed lawsuits and outlandish claims that never panned out,” Glasstetter said. “Just last month, Klayman concocted a conspiracy theory about how the Texas fertilizer plant explosion was actually a terrorist attack by foreign Muslims intended to kill George W. Bush. Klayman said that the Obama administration knew all about it but was covering it up.”
In response, Klayman said, “What do you expect from atheists and ultra-left wing socialists who hate conservatives and people of faith."
