Via Twitchy: ‘The nerve’: Flippant Dems mock search for Lerner emails with ‘birther,’ Area 51 comparisons

During the House Ways and Means Committee questioning of IRS head John Koskinen, Democrats Joe Crowley of New York and Lloyd Doggett of Texas dismissed the entire investigation into the “lost” Lois Lerner emails as an empty conspiracy chase.

Crowley compared those seeking to get to the bottom of the IRS scandal to the search for Obama’s birth certificate: [...] More @ Twitchy.

"Like those who continue to refuse to believe the birth certificate from the state of Hawaii is actually real, conspiracy theorists will continue to rattle sabers," Crowley said. "But really dose anyone in this room want to be seen in that light." [...] - More @ Breitbart News.

    REALITY CHECK:

The IRS Had a Contract With an Email Backup Company

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said it can't provide emails sent between 2009 and 2011 that were requested by congressional investigators because of hard drive crashes.

The agency said that emails stored on dead drives were lost forever because its email backup tapes were recycled every six months, and employees were responsible for keeping their own long-term archives.

The IRS had a contract with email backup service vendor Sonasoft starting in 2005, according to FedSpending.org, which lists the contract as being for "automatic data processing services." Sonasoft's motto is "email archiving done right," and the company lists the IRS as a customer.

In 2009, Sonasoft even sent out a Tweet advertising its work for the IRS. [...] Continued @ Reason.

New WH Press Sec. Dismisses GOP ‘Conspiracy Theories’ on IRS E-mails

    Mediaite

    Josh Feldman
    6/20/2014

    Excerpt:

Josh Earnest, the man now filling Jay Carney‘s role as White House Press Secretary, fielded a question today about the IRS e-mail controversy, and ended up dismissing it as yet another conspiracy theory concocted by Republicans to paint some kind of unfair picture about what the IRS has been up to.

The IRS informed a somewhat incredulous Congress this week that it’s lost two years worth of e-mails belonging to former IRS official Lois Lerner and the IRS commissioner faced a grilling on Capitol Hill today about those e-mails. Earnest, however, rolled his eyes and pointed to all the investigations that have already been conducted into the IRS, and said “all of that has done nothing to substantiate false Republican claims of a broader political conspiracy.”

He insisted the White House was cooperated with all congressional requests, and yet despite that “we’ve seen continued allegations of Republican conspiracy theories that just never pan out.”
