PolitiFact: Article II Presidential Eligibility Issue Not Settled; The Supreme Court's Silence

    Birther Report

    3/29/2015

    Excerpt:

The issue is settled. The issue is not settled. The issue is settled. The issue is not settled. The issue is settled. The issue is not settled. The issue is settled. The issue is not settled. The issue is settled. The issue is not settled.

    Which is it?

Tampa Bay Times' Politifact weighs in:

[...] Full disinformation piece continued at TBT.

The Bloomberg video they have embedded in their "report" is more interesting than the actual Politifact propaganda piece as one of the hosts correctly points out that Senator Ted Cruz is a naturalized citizen. One of the other hosts shot back incorrectly that Cruz is a "natural born Citizen" due to being born to American citizen parents.

The reality is, like Obama, Cruz was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents.

    BLOOMBERG VIDEO:

We keep hearing that "Citizen" and "natural born Citizen" are one in the same. If that was the case how come the Founders differentiated between the two terms in the constitutional eligibility requirements for elected office?

Keep in mind there was no such thing as a "naturalized" citizen when the Constitution was written.

REQUIREMENT FOR PRESIDENT & VICE PRESIDENT:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;..."

    REQUIREMENT FOR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE:

"No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen."

    REQUIREMENT FOR U.S. SENATOR:

"No person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the age of thirty years, and been nine years a citizen of the United States and who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state for which he shall be chosen."

Politifact did get one thing correct,,,
