Donald Trump extended his deadline for President Barack Obama to release his college records because of Hurricane Sandy as the reality show host and real estate magnate used the storm to tout his developments.
Trump, one of Obama’s fiercest critics, initially gave the president until Wednesday to release his college records. Trump’s self-proclaimed “big announcement” was a deal with Obama that he would donate $5 million to the president’s charity of choice if he would release the records.
“Because of the hurricane, I am extending my 5 million dollar offer for President Obama's favorite charity until 12PM on Thursday,” The Donald announced Tuesday on his Twitter account.
Trump used Twitter and Facebook to toot his own horn about his developer credentials.
Following reports of a crane collapse at a luxury high-rise project on 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues in New York City, Trump said he would have received much more criticism for the situation had the project been his.
The Donald did not let the tragedy of Hurricane Sandy prevent him from attacking the president.
Trump suggested Obama would “buy the election” through federal aid doled out to states affected by the storm.
“Hurricane is good luck for Obama again -- he will buy the election by handing out billions of dollars,” Trump wrote. “Not only giving out money, but Obama will be seen today standing in water and rain like he is a real President -- don't fall for it.”
The Donald then pivoted back to his $5 million offer to Obama, suggesting charities the president could direct the money to if he accepts the offer.
“Maybe Obama should donate my $5M to the families of the 17 who have lost loved ones during the storm?” Trump said. “Another great cause Obama could send my $5M donation to is a charity for 9/11 First Responders. They are American heroes.”
