    Excerpt:

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre on Thursday attacked Connecticut’s new gun-control laws, saying they are “making the law books thicker for the law-abiding people.”

“The problem with what Connecticut did, is the criminals, the drug dealers, the people that are going to do horror and terror, they aren’t going to cooperate,” LaPierre told Fox News.

Earlier on Thursday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy signed what is considered the nation’s toughest gun laws, which include banning some weapons — along with the sale and purchase of high-capacity magazines — as well as requiring background checks for every gun purchase.

LaPierre contended that the NRA believed that armed security should be in every school and that improvements needed to be made to the nation’s mental-health system, if lawmakers really wanted to make people safe.

“From the very start, my thought has been how little it has to do with keeping kids safe and how much it has to do with this decade-long agenda against firearms that…some of the political class and the media have had,” he told Fox.

LaPierre dismissed concerns over high-capacity magazines in a response to a preview of an upcoming “60 minutes” interview with parents of some of the students killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14.

Some parents said that if the shooter, Adam Lanza, had 10-round clips instead of 30-round clips, fewer kids would have been killed.

“You can change magazine clips in a second; there’s no evidence that anything would’ve changed,” LaPierre told Fox. “Fact is, if you’re a homeowner though and you have someone coming through your door in the middle of the night, why should you be limited to three rounds or four rounds, like Mayor Bloomberg wants to do?
