Trump on a Muslim President: ‘If Somebody Can Get Elected, That’s What It’s All About’

    Excerpt:

Donald Trump said today he doesn’t have a problem with a Muslim president, saying anyone who can get through the process and be elected is fine.

Trump disagreed slightly with Ben Carson‘s view on Muslims becoming president, and told Greta Van Susteren tonight, “If somebody can get elected, that’s what it’s all about… Anybody that is able to win an election will be absolutely fine.”

In other words, he has no problem with a Muslim candidate who goes through the same vetting process everyone else does.

Now, that being said, Trump did say there are people who want to be “politically correct” about the Muslim faith and spoke of a “terrible terrorism problem” in the world.

Ben Carson Clarifies Muslim Remarks: I Won’t Support Anyone Who Wants Theocracy

    Mediaite

    9/21/2015

    Excerpt:

Ben Carson appeared with Sean Hannity tonight to clarify what he meant when he said “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation.”

On Meet the Press yesterday, Carson said that he doesn’t believe Muslims should be president because their faith does not align with the Constitution. He was criticized left and right, but his campaign defended the remarks and insisted the people are with them on this.

On Hannity tonight, Carson said that “we do not put people at the leadership of our country whose faith might interfere with them carrying out the duties of the Constitution,” which he insisted applies to every faith, not just Islam.

But he still singled out Islam in particular, saying any Muslim candidate should reject the more controversial tenets of their faith and accept the American way of life, which he assumed would make them “heretics” to the faith.

Hannity noticed he was ever-so-slightly tempering his earlier remarks and asked, “Did you mean to say radical Islamist?” Carson said, “That was implied.”
