Excerpts:
SAVANNAH — In a darkened classroom, Robert Smith beckoned toward a slide that, in the space of a page, described the “The Trump Platform.”
There was his plan to build a wall on the Mexican border, his criticism of the healthcare overhaul, his critique of free trade agreements.
“We’re trying here to find out what makes him so attractive,” he said to about a dozen curious students on a recent afternoon. “We’re trying here to find out what makes him so interesting.”
Pundits, politicians and journalists have tried to put their finger on the Trump mystique as the billionaire catapulted over 16 other GOP contenders to win his party’s nomination. Now a course at Savannah State University is wrestling with the same question.
...............................................
Over an intense five-week span, the students study Donald Trump’s biography, analyze excerpts from his speeches and craft policy papers on his campaign pronouncements. They delve into his media messaging, pick apart his social media rhetoric and project his long-term impact on electoral politics.
