"After sending its original "attack watch" team under the radar earlier this year, the Obama reelection campaign has intensified its tracking of attacks aimed at the President, according to a report today at The Blaze.
Conservatives are calling the new initiative "Attack Watch 2.0."
The original attack watch was part of Obama's so called "truth teams" aimed at monitoring social networking sites for "smears" of the President which could then be refuted by the campaign.
But the program was the object of relentless ridicule and sarcasm on the part of conservatives when it was first launched. In response the Obama campaign lowered the profile of the attack watch initiative and sent its truth squads flying under the radar screen.
The report at The Blaze, however, indicates that not only has the Obama campaign continued to operate the truth teams but decided to ratchet up their activity.
Further, Jake Tapper of ABC News observed that the truth teams go far beyond the mere monitoring and refuting of smears. The truth squads, said Tapper, blur the lines between smears and criticism.
To criticize Obama is not the same as smearing him. A critical comment aimed at highlighting the truth in the midst of a political climate in which the boundaries of honesty and integrity are constantly crossed is not an attack.
However, many conservatives say that this Administration has consistently demonstrated that it has a very thin skin when it comes to criticism of any kind, often equating the telling of the plain truth with an attack or smear."
