"Morgan Freeman, the Academy Award winner, says that President Barack Obama has a mixed-race heritage and therefore the U.S. has still not had its first black president. Since Barack Obama burst into the national political spotlight, he has faced question after question about his place of birth to the validity of his college transcripts and birth certificate. Yet he has not been asked about his race.
After three and half years in office the racial identification of the president is apparently being doubted, but not by critics but by one of the president’s staunchest supporters Freeman. Freeman told a surprised interviewer earlier in the week that the U.S. has not seen a black president.
The actor was trying to make a point that some voters oppose the president due to his race, when the fact is, argued the actor, that Obama is mixed and not African-American. Freeman said that he always thinks about the people in the country who are trying to place a barrier for Obama because of his race. He said they conveniently forget that his mother was white and white from Kansas, in the breadbasket of the U.S. Freeman says it is simple, Obama is the first mixed race president in the U.S., but not the first black president in the U.S.
Traditionally those people in America who have mixed racial heritages are able to decide on their own which of their parental heritages with which they would best identify. From a very young age, Obama self-identified as being African-American."
