FAA to Ice Fisherman: You Can’t Get Your Beer Delivered by Drone

The Minnesota microbrewery Lakemaid Beer thought they had figured out the perfect way to deliver much-needed beer to remote ice fisherman. But this week, the Federal Aviation Administration told the company they were no longer allowed to transport beer via unmanned drone.
The whole thing started with Lakemaid released ... video of the beer-delivering drones in action, which quickly racked up tens of thousands of views on YouTube:
Then, the company’s president Jack Supple started getting calls from the FAA. “We were a little surprised at the FAA interest in this since we thought we were operating under the 400-foot limit,” Supple told NPR. He said he “figured a vast frozen lake was a lot safer place than [what] Amazon was showing on 60 Minutes,” referring to the recent demonstration from Jeff Bezos.
