Obama’s visit to Texas brings back images of Bush’s Katrina flyover

Stagecraft is how something looks. Bush and Mission Accomplished. That fateful flyover picture of the former president looking at the flood waters after Hurricane Katrina. Lasting images and not good ones.
I sense Obama’s meeting with Perry in Dallas to discuss the humanitarian plight of immigrant children and security issues along the border may qualify as one of these poorly executed stagecraft moments for this administration.
Obama was going to be in Texas for donor events, and there was no indication that he was going to head to the border or meet with anyone here about the border crisis until Perry threw a trump card on the table in the form of a letter urging a face-to-face meeting. And it seems the place this could happen is Dallas — between fundraisers.
No trip to the border or to shelters. Either it is tone deafness or political arrogance on the part of the president. It is clear he doesn’t want a picture taken with the children to be used as political ammunition. I understand the politics.
