Donald Trump has no plans to drop his lawsuit against comedian Bill Maher, telling the hosts of “The View” that the “courts will say” whether or not their bet was a joke.
“Honestly, he made an offer, I accepted the offer.” Trump said Tuesday. “He didn’t say it was a joke [at the time]. We’re going to find out if it was a joke. The courts will tell. Whether or not it’s a joke, we’re going to find out. He was very upset, he was angry, he was very flustered, he was all screwed up and nervous. We’re going to find out whether or not it was a joke.”
The Maher-Trump feud began in January when Maher said that he’d pay $5 million to Trump’s charity of choice if Trump released his birth certificate proving he’s not the “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump did as requested, but Maher subsequently refused to pay up, claiming that the stunt was just a joke. Trump said he’d pursue legal action and filed a lawsuit last month.
