Remarking on the special election victory of David Jolly in Florida over former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink on Tuesday night, the hosts of Fox & Friends said that Jolly won a victory in purple district in a race which had become a “referendum on Obamacare.” Host Clayton Morris said that Democrats regarded the race as a “must-win” and that CNN analyst Paul Begala called the victory a “Scott Brown moment” for the future of the Affordable Care Act.
“Even though he was trailing by as many as six points with a week to go, the Republican — not very well-known — Dave Jolly, defeated Alex Sink, who just ran for statewide office, 49 percent to 47 percent,” said host Brian Kilmeade. “And this sends tremors through the political process.”
“This was seen as a must-win for Democrats,” Morris added. “It was an area where President [Barack] Obama won twice both elections in Florida, and it was seen really as a referendum on Obamacare.”
Kilmeade noted that Jolly won in spite of being outspent on television advertisements four-to-one by his opponent, and seemed to accomplish this feat because of his opposition to the ACA. - (bold and color emphasis added in the preceding two paragraphs)
