  • Gilliam said: ‘I always felt the British are very good at laughing at themselves. The Americans are better at laughing at other people’
  • He added: ‘There’s a kind of egotism out there: “Oh, they were making fun of me.” Never heard of you. I’m making fun of an idea’ 
  • The director’s latest movie, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, comes out Friday
  • The film took nearly 30 years to complete due to repeated setbacks

(Gilliam) … addressed his perceived anger in response to the head of BBC comedies’ recent comments that a modern day Monty Python wouldn’t have ‘six white Oxbridge blokes’.  

‘I wasn’t particularly angry, I just played angry,’ he said. 

‘The idea is that we’re already excluded because the world has changed. I said, I’m tired of being, as a white male, blamed for everything that’s wrong in the world. So now I want you to call me Loretta. I’m a black lesbian in transition.

    The trouble began with “a post on social media,” the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported, citing the school superintendent.

    A girl who pretends to be a boy — “transitioning from female to male,” as the Daily News-Miner reported — “posted a selfie from the boy’s bathroom on Snapchat.”

    But then “a group of boys saw the selfie and didn’t like it.” They decided to turn the tables.

    “Upset about about the public nature of the post and how that played out,” the school superintendent told the newspaper, “seven boys decided to go into the girls restroom and take a group selfie of their own to post on Snapchat.”

    That’s when they ran into the girl with a knee she isn’t afraid to use: “As the boys were entering the girls bathroom, a girl who was walking out the door kneed a boy in the groin.” He landed in the hospital. The school disciplined all eight students.
