President Donald Trump is tapping former Assistant Attorney General Chris Wray to serve as the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the president said in a tweet Wednesday morning.

Mr. Wray, a former senior Justice Department official who has since served as a white-collar defense lawyer, met with Mr. Trump late last month at the White House for an interview.

“I will be nominating Christopher A. Wray, a man of impeccable credentials, to be the new Director of the FBI,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter. “Details to follow.” Once officially nominated, Mr. Wray will need Senate confirmation.

(Jun. 7, 2017) — At approximately 7:45 AM EDT, President Donald Trump tweeted, “I will be nominating Christopher A. Wray, a man of impeccable credentials, to be the new Director of the FBI. Details to follow.”

To The Post & Email’s knowledge, Wray’s name had not come up in news reports which mentioned possible replacements for James B. Comey, who Trump fired on May 9.

Directly after Trump’s announcement, NPR reported that Wray “worked in the Justice Department during President George W. Bush’s administration.”
