This image (or images) of immigrants or invaders has been displayed on George W. Bush’s Presidential Center website (.org) since at least 2021 (that’s we I first noticed it). It’s still there today (May 6, 2022).
The images are from Bush’s book, Out of Many, One: Portraits of America’s Immigrants (published 2021) which is a collection of oil paintings which were all purportedly painted by Bush, himself. The book does contain portrait paintings of what appear to be White people but Bush’s website features only the non-Whites at the head of their immigration landing page.
The only White man featured on Bush’s immigration section of the site is German born Dirk Nowitzk, a former professional NBA basketball player. He first arrived in the US in 1998. Unlike most or maybe all of the other featured immigrants Nowitzk never attended college and as far as I know has never worked outside of basketball (currently working as a special advisor for the Dallas Mavericks).
The non-White immigrants featured on Bush’s site all have college degrees and careers. For example, Thear Suzuki (born in Cambodia) holds a bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with a biomedical engineering specialization and works as a consultant. Or Roya Mahboob (born in Afghanistan), for example, who holds a bachelor’s in Computer Science for information and communications technology and (among many other accomplishments and work history) is currently the CEO of a software company and an advisor at the Forbes School of Business & Technology.
Bush has described the opponents of his vision for only-non-White immigration in the US as “nativists” and “isolationists” which he considers to be pejorative terms.
