A record number of Iowans voted for president in 2012.
Final results from the 2012 presidential election were certified on today (Monday). 1,589,899 Iowans voted for president this year and that number is certified by the Iowa Executive Council. That number also indicates that upwards of 43,000 more Iowans voted this time around than in the 2008 election.
Approximately 73 percent of all eligible voters in Iowa cast their vote in the 2012 presidential election.
Official tally for Iowa:
Barack Obama won Iowa with 822,544 votes.
Mitt Romney lost Iowa with 730,617 votes.
A record number, 688,005, of absentee votes for president were cast in Iowa.

It should noted that Johnson received more votes across the country, upwards of 1.2 millions votes, than any other Libertarian in history who has previously ran for Office of President of the United States of America.
7,442 write-in ballots in Iowa.
2,485 ballots spoiled because voters voted for more than one presidential candidate.
5,234 ballots that indicated no preference for president.
