If you didn’t already know the “Hawaii Rainbow Warriors” is the name of the sports teams (Basketball, Volleyball, etc.) at the University of Hawaii.
Evidently (based on what I’ve read) the University of Hawaii officially adopted the name “Rainbow Warriors” (rather than just “Warriors” itself) in or around 1974 and their student newspaper had been using that Rainbow Warriors name (rather than just “Warriors”) to refer to the teams since in or around the mid-1960s.
Then in the year 2000 the University officially dropped the Rainbow part to avoid what they call gay stigma.
Then in the year 2013 the University officially added (for the second time) the “Rainbow” part to support gays, lesbos, trannies and gender benders.
Looks like their moral compass and what they are willing to get behind (no pun intended) shifts with the tide of public opinion.
