A student at Kansas State is facing online death threats, calls to release his personal information online, and an investigation from the college after he made a joke on Twitter.

Student, political commentator and game streamer Jaden McNeil tweeted, “Congratulations to George Floyd on being drug free for an entire month.”

Colleges and workplaces are increasingly facing requests for students and staff to be removed due to their online posts (even jokes) with phone numbers and emails being flooded with complaints from emergent Twitter mobs who are invigorated by the pursuit of ending careers and livelihoods.

Florida says ‘this is fine’ to release of genetically modified mosquitoes (modified by Bill Gates)

By Josh K. Elliott
Global News
June 18, 2020

Excerpt:

Has science found a way to cut down on mosquito-born diseases — or will life find a way to break free from human meddling, a la Jurassic Park?

That’s the question hanging over a recent decision by state regulators in Florida, which would allow the biotech company Oxitec to unleash hundreds of millions of genetically modified male mosquitoes in the Florida Keys. The lab-altered, patented insects are members of Aedes aegypti, the species of mosquito that spreads diseases such as yellow fever, malaria and chikungunya. However, they’ve been genetically altered to artificially reduce future mosquito populations.

It sounds like a bit of mad science but it’s all about love, actually.

The plan is to unleash millions of genetically modified males so they can hook up with all the lady mosquitoes and produce artificially weak offspring that never grow up, thereby reducing the overall population. Male mosquitoes don’t drink human blood, so the influx of flying fellas theoretically wouldn’t add to the problem.

The Federal Reserve: Strategic Allocation of Coin Inventories

Excerpt:

Temporary coin order allocation in all Reserve Bank offices and Federal Reserve coin distribution locations effective June 15, 2020

The COVID‐19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the supply chain and normal circulation patterns for U.S. coin. In the past few months, coin deposits from depository institutions to the Federal Reserve have declined significantly and the U.S. Mint’s production of coin also decreased due to measures put in place to protect its employees. Federal Reserve coin orders from depository institutions have begun to increase as regions reopen, resulting in the Federal Reserve’s coin inventory being reduced to below normal levels. While the U.S. Mint is the issuing authority for coin, the Federal Reserve manages coin inventory and its distribution to depository institutions (including commercial banks, community banks, credit unions and thrifts) through Reserve Bank cash operations and offsite locations across the country operated by Federal Reserve vendors.

A Penny for Your Thoughts Could Be a Lot Harder to Find

The New York Times

By Jeanna Smialek and Alan Rappeport

June 25, 2020

Excerpt:

Randy Graham, the chief executive of the First National Bank of Tennessee, was surprised to learn in mid-June that the Federal Reserve would not be filling his entire order of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.

The reason: The nation’s coin supply was coming up short.

The U.S. Mint manufactures America’s coins, and the Federal Reserve distributes them across the country. As typical coin circulation has been disrupted by the pandemic, those institutions have had to change their normal practices to solve the problem, with the Fed allocating coins to banks based on their historical order sizes and the Mint ramping up new coin shipments to pump fresh supply into the system.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Tuesday that he believed the shortage would be solved. He noted that the staff at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing worked throughout the lockdown to ensure that cash was delivered to the Federal Reserve so it could be distributed to banks.
