The National Rifle Association appears to have tangible evidence, from the USDOJ, that Obama’s gun control plans will not work unless the Government seizes firearms and requires national gun registration:

Video: NRA The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina
The video you will see on this web site is horrifying. The crimes committed against law-abiding gun owners are beyond comprehension. The arrogance of anti-gun politicians and government officials and their hate of freedom will churn your stomach.
The law is the law, the Constitution is the Constitution. If ONE local mayor or police chief can decide what the Second Amendment means, it opens the door to tyranny—where ANY mayor or police chief can say what the Second Amendment means.
You’ve seen this brand of abuse of freedom in the history books—in the pages about days of gun confiscations leading to the terror of Stalin, Mao and Hitler. But you’d never in a million years think it could happen in America.
Well, it can and it did. And it will happen again unless we take action today.
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Police Superintendent P. Eddie Compass unleashed a wave of confiscations with these chilling words:
“No one will be able to be armed. We will take all weapons. Only law enforcement will be allowed to have guns.”
Thousands of firearms were then confiscated from law-abiding gun owners. The police gave no paperwork or receipts for those guns. They just stormed in and seized them.
With your help we’re going to make the first time in New Orleans the LAST time in America. Thank you!
Now, one year later, these crimes against gun owners have snowballed into a far greater threat to our freedoms.
Even though NRA secured a court order demanding their immediate and unconditional return, almost every single confiscated firearm remains locked in government trailers.
With the stroke of a pen, Mayor Nagin and Police Superintendent Compass are getting away with “murder”—a savaging of the second, fourth and fourteenth amendments of our Constitution. And they have put America on notice that they’re going to keep seizing lawfully owned guns under any pretense.
New Orleans gun owners are showing up at these trailers, with serial numbers of their firearms, expecting Mayor Nagin and his band of anti-gunners to respect the Federal courts.
They are met by stony-eyed bureaucrats who say serial numbers aren’t enough—and that gun owners now need PROOF OF PURCHASE of these firearms.
How many of those gun owners do you think had original receipts for those firearms? And even if they did, how many do you think could find those receipts in the wreckage of a hurricane?
Many of these firearms were passed down from father to son, generation to generation. Some are precious heirlooms. Some are collector’s pieces won in our wars. And they were all lawfully owned and they must be returned to their owners.
With your help we’re going to make the first time in New Orleans the LAST time in America.
Thank you!

See police confiscate guns from Americans
From Katrina to Seattle to small-town Alabama, watch the unthinkable
WND

Excerpt:
Is it possible – or even imaginable – that in the United States of America, police could go door to door and confiscate citizens’ legally owned firearms?
To many, such a concern is conspiratorial and evidence of paranoia. They might be surprised to learn that not only has outright gun confiscation of legally purchased weapons already occurred in a major way in the U.S., but public officials in some areas are right now attempting to pass legislation to allow more of the same.
Alas, with the national furor over multiple new gun restrictions being proposed by President Obama via “executive action,” in Congress, in state legislatures and in municipalities, the plan being forwarded by officials in Guntersville, Ala., this week drew scarcely a mention in the media.
Mayor Leigh Dollar says that in case of an emergency or crisis, she wants police officers to have the authority to “disarm individuals, if necessary.”
“We are not trying to infringe upon anyone constitutional rights whatsoever,” she says. “It’s just to protect the workers working out there in a disaster.”
The ordinance is up for debate at the city council meeting next week.
Such blatant grabs for guns are not new in the U.S. Less than a year ago, the Second Amendment Foundation fought a court battle over a North Carolina regulation that banned firearms and ammunition outside the home during any declared emergency, and won.
And just days ago, it was revealed that a provision in a new Washington-state gun-control bill was so draconian that even its sponsors backtracked or denied any knowledge of it when they were confronted about it.
As Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat reported , the “Orwellian” measure would allow the county sheriff to inspect the homes of owners of so-called “assault weapons” to ensure the weapons were stored properly.
In the post-Newtown debate, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke speaks for many of the nation’s sheriffs in saying such firearms seizure plans are flat-out unconstitutional and they won’t enforce them.
“The people in Milwaukee County do not have to worry about me enforcing some sort of order that goes out and collects everybody’s handgun, or rifles, or any kind of firearm and makes them turn them in,” he told radio talker Alex Jones. “The reason is I don’t want to get shot, because I believe that if somebody tried to enforce something of that magnitude, you would see the second coming of an American Revolution, the likes of which would make the first revolution pale by comparison.”
Is such a scenario even imaginable in the United States of America – the scene of officers pounding on your door, or worse yet, inside your home throwing you up against a wall and pounding on you because happen to have a legally owned weapon for self-defense?
Although many Americans don’t know it, that is exactly what happened in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Thousands of weapons – legally obtained and owned – were simply grabbed from citizens after New Orleans Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass III announced, “Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons.” Just to make sure the message was loud and clear, the city’s Deputy Police Chief Warren Riley told ABC News: “No one will be able to be armed. We are going to take all the weapons.”
Then they did exactly that.
One man at a post-Katrina meeting assembled in conjunction with the National Rifle Association said, “The bottom line is this. Once they did it, they set a precedent. And what we’ve got to be sure [of] is that the precedent stops here.”
In a series of videos, the NRA has documented the stunning weapons grab by police in New Orleans, assembling videos that show them physically taking weapons from individuals, including one woman who was stunned when officers threw her against her kitchen wall because she had a small handgun for self-defense.
The police actions – many of the victims describe the gun confiscation as out-and-out theft – left New Orleans’ residents, who had been prepared to stand their ground and defend themselves from thugs and looters running amok, completely defenseless.
Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, told WND such plans “start smacking of a non-The United States of America” and more of “some Third World country.”
The government, he said, appears to want ever more control over people’s lives, which “is crippling the ability of people to defend themselves … in situations like a Hurricane Katrina where the police were nowhere around and people were taking up arms to protect their property.”
He noted that since the U.S. Supreme Court has determined police do not have a constitutional obligation to protect people from crime, self-reliance often can be the key to survival.
Gun confiscation schemes, then, mean “we’re going to have a citizenry that is helpless in the face of lawless people.” And that, said Thompson, is simply unconstitutional.

Gun control called new version of Jim Crow
Black activist: ‘With power in the hands of a few, many get hurt’
WND
3/4/2013
Excerpt:
A prominent black conservative and author has released a new 30-second ad that likens gun-control campaigns by powerful Democrats in Congress and state legislatures to the Ku Klux Klan’s efforts to suppress blacks during the era of Jim Crow laws.
One of those laws, in fact, is cited in the ad released by WND columnist Star Parker, who is the founder of CURE.
Accompanied to the sound of a chant, the video images are shocking: whites breaking into a house, tying up a black and hauling him off. The last image is of a lynching.
The message?
“Gun control is not a new idea in America. A call for background checks invokes painful memories of Jim Crow and black codes. ‘No freedman, negro, or mulatto shall carry or keep firearms or ammunition’ – Mississippi Black Code 1865. Taking guns from the law abiding many puts too much power in the hands of an ill-intentioned few.”
Parker told WND that it was a horrific part of the nation’s history, but the struggle still continues by the left “trying to take our Second Amendment right to bear arms.”
If successful, the results would be mayhem, she said.
“That’s what will happen to all of us if we allow the power of a few in Washington to take away our Second Amendment rights,” she said. “It’s always the powerful who want to disarm their opponents.”
It’s what happened in Hitler’s regime, she said, as well as in Stalin’s Russia, in Cuba and North Korea.
Eventually, all of America would look like an inner city, should the nation’s current course not be changed, she said.
“Why would an organization like CURE, whose mission focuses on the relevance of American values of faith and freedom to minorities, be so concerned about guns?” she wrote.
“Because, as conservative black Americans, we know that the soul of America is kept alive with the free flow of the oxygen of freedom. And we know that when that flow is interrupted in any way, the group that suffers first and most are blacks.”
She noted the new gun control initiatives coming from President Obama, Democrats in Congress and Democrats at the state level. In Colorado alone, Democrats are working to install seven new gun control laws.
“There is no problem facing America today that liberals do not believe should be solved by more government and less freedom. And liberals are consistent and predictable in their indifference to facts and experience that show whenever they do succeed in growing government and limiting freedom, they make matters worse, not better,” she wrote.
“A substantial body of research already shows that gun controls empower criminals and weaken law-abiding citizens.”
Parker noted that blacks already are “the least armed, least protected and defended, and the most assaulted citizens in our country.”

@ Bruce:
Bruce, excellent posting!
I’ve read Star Parker’s articles at WND for years and I can testify she gets it right. In the case here of likening the new Gun Control campaigns by the DemoRATs to Jim Crow, she has nailed it.
Re: “Parker noted that blacks already are “the least armed, least protected and defended, and the most assaulted citizens in our country.””
There is something in that last statement that needs pointing out because of the way the Obots bootlicking for Obama have been framing their propaganda, smearing & racemongering over the last 5 years so people reading it don’t get the wrong idea. According to the statistics over 90% of the assaults are “Black on Black Crime”.

Barack Obama: “People Should Not Be Able To Own Guns”
The Ulsterman Report
Ulsterman

Excerpt:
Despite his repeated attempts to paint himself as a Second Amendment moderate, Barack Obama has a consistent history of being one who feels private citizens have NO right to own a gun. Period. And where was the Mainstream Media in vetting Barack Obama on this important issue prior to his being voted in as President of the United States – TWICE? Does anyone think Barack Obama would ever have won a national election if he had come out and admitted his true feelings regarding the Second Amendment? Hell no…
(Barack Obama has no problem arming radical Muslims, or known drug cartels, but when it comes to law abiding American citizens…he doesn’t believe YOU have the right to own a gun.)

EXCERPT: (via CNS News)
Author Quotes Then-Professor Obama Saying, ‘I Don’t Believe People Should Be Able To Own Guns’
In his new book, At the Brink, economist and author John Lott Jr., assesses the presidency of Barack Obama and recalls conversations regarding gun laws they had while working at the University of Chicago.
In Chapter Three, Mr. Lott discusses gun-control and takes the reader back to his time at the University of Chicago, where he and then-professor Barack Obama (NOTE: Barack Obama was never a professor – he lectured there) spoke on numerous occasions about guns in America.
“I don’t believe people should be able to own guns,” Obama told Lott one day at the University of Chicago Law School.
…”Despite his assurance to Fox News that he understands the Second Amendment, it’s a good bet that the positions Obama took on guns during his time at Chicago reveal his true convictions.”
The chapter documents the actions that Obama has taken on guns, citing the following:
— In 1996, Obama supported a ban on handguns
— In 1998, he supported a ban on the sale of all semi-automatic guns
— In 2004, he advocated banning gun sales within five miles of a school or park, which would have shut down nearly all gun stores
Mr. Lott concludes the chapter, titled, “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered,” writing, “Barack Obama is the most anti-gun president ever. That claim is based not on my own interactions with him back in the 1990′s but on his own public record over many years.”
He ends with a warning:
“The greatest threat is in his [Obama’s] power to reshape the federal courts…Each appointment to the Supreme Court could determine whether the people are allowed to keep their guns.”

VA Gun Show Dealers Out Of Ammo: ‘Nope, There’s None In Here’
CNS News
Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr.
3/9/2013
Excerpt:
“You have any .22?,” I asked a dealer pricing boxes of ammunition at his table. “Nope,” he answered. “There’s none in here.”
He was right. Nothing. Not at any table.
I grabbed a few boxes of overpriced 9mm for the Glock and knew that was all I was taking home.
I get the feeling the run on “scary-looking assault weapons,” aka AR-15’s, aka semi-automatic rifles, has subsided, at least, for now. There were plenty of dealers selling, but I didn’t see many buyers.
Why? Well, for starters, there’s no ammo! Without ammo, it’s useless. The rifles have also increased significantly in price since the last time I visited the Expo Center in Fredericksburg, Va. back in December.
An hour before the doors opened, I stood in line with a vet and a young man in the Army. We noticed the lines weren’t nearly as long as those seen in Richmond just a month earlier. But, that was at 8:00am.
When I left at 10:45, there wasn’t an open parking spot, and the Wegman’s lot and surrounding strip malls looked suspiciously full. There was still a line to get inside the show, but it was moving.
“This administration is doing the exact opposite of what it wants to accomplish,” the vet said to me. “He’s the best gun salesman in the world,” I replied.
The younger man chimed in, mocking Sheriff Joe Biden’s lack of knowledge on the subject, and his constant gaffes on, well, almost everything.
I thanked them for their service before we parted ways. “Good luck, I hope you find what you came for,” one of them said.
Unfortunately, I didn’t.
When I got home an hour later I checked the usual online ammo dealers (as I do every time I sit down at my computer). There was nothing. No .22. No 9mm.
This is how it’s been for weeks. And I fear this is how it will be until the “gun-control” debate and attack on the 2nd Amendment subsides — if it ever does.

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It’s Time For A National Conversation
Forbes
Ralph Benko
3/11/2013
Excerpt:
The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.
Add to this perplexing outré purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation. As observed by “paramilblogger” Ken Jorgustin last September:
— [T]he Department of Homeland Security is apparently taking delivery (apparently through the Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico VA, via the manufacturer – Navistar Defense LLC) of an undetermined number of the recently retrofitted 2,717 ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ MaxxPro MRAP vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.”
— These MRAP’s ARE BEING SEEN ON U.S. STREETS all across America by verified observers with photos, videos, and descriptions.”
— Regardless of the exact number of MRAP’s being delivered to DHS (and evidently some to POLICE via DHS, as has been observed), why would they need such over-the-top vehicles on U.S. streets to withstand IEDs, mine blasts, and 50 caliber hits to bullet-proof glass? In a war zone… yes, definitely. Let’s protect our men and women. On the streets of America… ?”
— …
— “They all have gun ports… Gun Ports? In the theater of war, yes. On the streets of America…?
— Seriously, why would DHS need such a vehicle on our streets?”
Why indeed? It is utterly inconceivable that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is planning a coup d’etat against President Obama, and the Congress, to install herself as Supreme Ruler of the United States of America. There, however, are real signs that the Department bureaucrats are running amok. About 20 years ago this columnist worked, for two years, in the U.S. Department of Energy’s general counsel’s office in its procurement and finance division. And is wise to the ways. The answer to “why would DHS need such a vehicle?” almost certainly is this: it’s a cool toy and these (reportedly) million dollar toys are being recycled, without much of a impact on the DHS budget. So… why not?
Why, indeed, should the federal government not be deploying armored personnel carriers and stockpiling enough ammo for a 20-year war in the homeland? Because it’s wrong in every way. President Obama has an opportunity, now, to live up to some of his rhetoric by helping the federal government set a noble example in a matter very close to his heart (and that of his Progressive base), one not inimical to the Bill of Rights: gun control. The federal government can (for a nice change) begin practicing what it preaches by controlling itself.
Remember the Sequester? The president is claiming its budget cuts will inconvenience travelers by squeezing essential services provided by the (opulently armed and stylishly uniformed) DHS. Quality ammunition is not cheap. (Of course, news reports that DHS is about to spend $50 million on new uniforms suggests a certain cavalier attitude toward government frugality.)
Spending money this way is beyond absurd well into perverse. According to the AP story a DHS spokesperson justifies this acquisition to “help the government get a low price for a big purchase.” Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center: “The training center and others like it run by the Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.”
At 15 million rounds (which, in itself, is pretty extraordinary and sounds more like fun target-shooting-at-taxpayer-expense than a sensible training exercise) … that’s a stockpile that would last DHS over a century. To claim that it’s to “get a low price” for a ridiculously wasteful amount is an argument that could only fool a career civil servant.
Meanwhile, Senator Diane Feinstein, with the support of President Obama, is attempting to ban 100 capacity magazine clips. Doing a little apples-to-oranges comparison, here, 1.6 billion rounds is … 16 million times more objectionable.
Mr. Obama has a long history of disdain toward gun ownership. According to Prof. John Lott, in Debacle, a book he co-authored with iconic conservative strategist Grover Norquist,
— “When I was first introduced to Obama (when both worked at the University of Chicago Law School, where Lott was famous for his analysis of firearms possession), he said, ‘Oh, you’re the gun guy.’
— I responded: ‘Yes, I guess so.’
— ’I don’t believe that people should own guns,’ Obama replied.
— I then replied that it might be fun to have lunch and talk about that statement some time.
— He simply grimaced and turned away. …
— Unlike other liberal academics who usually enjoyed discussing opposing ideas, Obama showed disdain.”
Mr. Obama? Where’s the disdain now? Cancelling, or at minimum, drastically scaling back — by 90% or even 99%, the DHS order for ammo, and its receipt and deployment of armored personnel carriers, would be a “fourfer.”

LaPierre: ‘Let Them Be Damned’
National Review Online
Eliana Johnson
3/15/2013
Excerpt:
NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre is not cowed by the criticism he and his organization have received in the wake of the shooting in Newtown, Conn. In a fiery speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference — met with cries from the audience of “Right! Right!” and “Amen!” — LaPierre dismissed Democrats’ calls for expanding background checks and called once again for putting armed guards in schools across the country.
“There’s not a mom or a dad anywhere who wouldn’t feel safer seeing a police car in parking lot when they drop their kids off to school,” he said.
Acknowledging the ire that has been directed his way since December’s shooting, LaPierre announced, “I didn’t come here to be popular; I came here to stand for what I believe is true.” As for the elitists in the mainstream media and the nation’s capital: “Let them be damned,” he said.
LaPierre reserved his harshest criticism for Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security, which suggested in a recent Web video that citizens protect themselves from gunmen with scissors.
“Scissors? That’s their answer?” LaPierre asked. “Let’s get this straight: To protect our children at school, we recommend a trained professional with a gun, and they recommend scissors? And they say we’re crazy? It’s sheer madness.”
He went on to mock the advice offered by Vice President Joe Biden in a recent town hall, in which he counseled a young woman to protect herself with a double-barreled shotgun, arguing that such a weapon is preferable to a semi-automatic rifle. “The vice president of the United States actually told women facing an attack to just empty their shotguns into the air. Honestly, have they lost their minds over at the White House?” The question was rhetorical, and the crowd whistled and cheered in approval.
“Keep your advice, we’ll keep our guns,” LaPierre concluded, to sustained applause.

Why does Obama need 1.6 billion bullets?
Diana West challenges Old Media to cover multiple federal ammo dumps
WND
Diana West
3/14/2013
Excerpt:
Dear Mainstream Media,
Back in 2008, candidate Barack Obama went off his teleprompter and added a couple of sentences to the text of a speech about expanding the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. Over rolling applause, the soon-to-be president of the United States said: “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
At the time, Joseph Farah of WND.com wrote a column calling on you to help shine a light on what this shocking statement really meant. In a permanent state of vapors over Obama’s candidacy, you were of no use when it came to extracting anything but press releases from Team Obama.
Nearly five years later, it hardly matters that candidate Obama’s promise to double the Peace Corps and the rest has come to naught. But the president’s unscripted determination to empower a civilian national security force is a different story. As far as you’re concerned, though, it’s also a nonstory.
This complacency or complicity has to stop. During the last 10 months, the Department of Homeland Security has purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition, including millions of hollow-point bullets. The department also has purchased 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, and it has overseen the retrofitting of more than 2,000 light tanks, which, of course, were originally designed to resist the mines and ambushes of the battlefield. Why does DHS need such offensive and defensive firepower?
Remember, DHS stands for Department of Homeland Security, and “homeland,” just to be extremely clear, means the USA. Obama must be asked against which domestic enemy he is arming nonmilitary forces. It sounds incredible, to be sure, but are we watching administration battle plans take shape against American citizens on the streets of Your Town, USA?
That’s where you in the mainstream media come in. This story has been burning up the “alternative press” of our Internet age – Drudge Report, Infowars.com, WND.com – for months, even years. As noted by Natural News, another “alternative” source, it’s only this week that the story is finally showing up in the mainstream media. Leapfrogging off a very thin Associated Press story of Feb. 15, Forbes.com contributor Ralph Benko made quite a splash (664,581 views) this week with a more substantive piece acknowledging these same menacing stockpiles and calling for a “national conversation.”
We the People seem ready for such a conversation – just think of all those story views. (By contrast, the next most popular Forbes.com story garnered 87,384 views.) You, the media, need to make sure the administration doesn’t get away with stonewalling.
That’s what we get now, if we get anything. Government spokesmen, when they’re not trying to make 1.6 billion bullets sound like a frugal, Costco-style bulk purchase, will tell you it’s all about target practice. Really? I hear that U.S. Army newbies soon to deploy to Afghanistan are training with blank cartridges. Why the priority for arming domestic forces, not military ones?
Even the liberal-minded “debunking” site Snopes.com confirms that the Social Security Administration has procured 174,000 hollow-point bullets for 300 special agents. Meanwhile, the National Marine Fisheries Service, which is tasked with “protecting fish stocks from depletion,” has procured 46,000 hollow-point bullets. Spokesman Scott Smullen explained, straight-faced, I am guessing, that 63 fisheries service “enforcement agents” will be using the so-called cop-killer bullets for “target qualifications.”
And that’s nothing. Last month, Paul Joseph Watson of Infowars.com reported that DHS purchased 21.6 million more rounds of ammunition, including 10 million hollow-point bullets. The latter, of course, are prohibited by the rules of war.
Commentators who have done the math tell us the feds’ ammo dump includes enough bullets to fight the war in Iraq for 27 years, or enough bullets to shoot every American citizen five times over.
Ridiculous? Conspiracy theory? Sorry to pop that bubble of well-being, but we have only blind faith to convince us that any of this is ridiculous, even that any of this is a conspiracy. The evidence, so far, is in the ammo. The whoppers and the stonewalling come from the government. You, the mainstream media, can restore balance with attention and exposure.
You might start with Watson’s coverage last month for Infowars.com of Law Enforcement Targets Inc. (LET), a Minnesota-based manufacturer that has received $2 million in unspecified contracts from DHS in the last three years. Recently, Watson writes, the company began selling cardboard cutout targets designed to “desensitize police” to “nontraditional threat targets,” as the online catalog called them. These targets included very pregnant women, children and other civilians in home, playground or other neighborhood settings. All hold guns. Public outrage over Watson’s online reports was such that LET apologized on Facebook for the company’s “No More Hesitation products” and removed them from its website.
In its apology, LET insisted these heinous civilian targets weren’t the company’s idea. “This product line was originally requested and designed by the law enforcement community. …”
I asked a friend with a long career in state and local law enforcement if he’d ever seen the like. He replied: “No. Hell, no. The targets I was trained to fire upon depicted people who really looked like armed criminals. No pregnant women. No kids. No old people. … I could have shot three armed men during my career and been justified. Right or wrong, I didn’t shoot them. These no-hesitation targets are disgusting.”

Big Sis Refuses To Answer Congress On Bullet Purchases
DHS staying mum as members probe for explanations
Infowars
Steve Watson
3/21/2013
Excerpt:
Speaking at CPAC with Infowars and We Are Change reporter, Luke Rudkowski, Congressman Timothy Huelscamp revealed this week that the Department of Homeland Security has refused to answer questions from “multiple” members of Congress regarding its recent purchase of huge amounts of weapons and ammunition.
“They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that,” Huelscamp said.
“I’ve got a list of various questions of agencies about multiple things. Far from being the most transparent administration in the world, they are the most closed and opaque,” the Congressman added.
“They refuse to let us know what is going on, so I don’t really have an answer for that. Multiple members of Congress are asking those questions,” he added.
“It comes down to during the budget process, during the appropriations process, are we willing to hold DHS’s feet to the fire?”
“We’re going to find out… I say we don’t fund them ’til we get an answer. Those type of things really challenge Americans. They are worried about this administration,” Huelscamp urged.
The Congressman’s comments come in the wake of a demand for answers from New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance on the same subject.
“I would like a full explanation as to why that has been done and I have every confidence that the oversight committee ….should ask those questions,” said Lance, adding that he shared a belief, “that Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred.”
The DHS has purchased over 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the past year – enough to wage a 20 year plus war. Earlier this month, Forbes Magazine called for a “national conversation” on the matter.
During the CPAC interview, Congressman Huelscamp also spoke briefly about why he voted twice against the National Defense Authorization Act, stating that it was because of the lack of detail regarding the provision in the bill to allow for incarceration of Americans without due process.
“I think it’s something that is so Constitutionally suspect,” Huelscamp said. “It’s one of those things, if you’re not absolutely crystal clear on a Constitutional issue like that, we shouldn’t take those chances.”
“I gather there are folks on the other side who think they covered that. I just don’t think we did a good enough job,” the Congressman added. “And based on how hard it was for Senator Paul to get an answer out of the administration, very clearly we need to make it absolutely clear that there are Constitutional protections in this country.”

Retired Army Captain Warns DHS Acquisitions are ‘bold threat of war’ Against the American People
Says Americans may have to prepare to defend themselves, and the U.S. Constitution, against the Obama Administration’s “coup” against the People

On Saturday, retired United States Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow publicly voiced grave concerns over the Department of Homeland Security’s absurd acquisitions, posting a letter he sent to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Facebook labeling the Obama administration’s recent appropriation of weapons a “bold threat of war” against citizens of the United States of America.
“It is with gravest concern that I write to you today concerning the recent appropriation of weapons by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that can only be understood as a bold threat of war by that agency, and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America,” the decorated retired Army Captain’s letter begins.
Referring to the DHS’ solicitations for nearly two billion rounds of ammunition and recent purchase of almost 3,000 mine-resistant ambush protected armored personnel carriers as “a tyrannical threat against the Constitution” and a deliberate attempt to defund the Department of Defense, the retired Army Captain asked Sen. Cornyn to honor his oath to the American people and the U.S. Constitution and “to demand in clear terms that the Administration cannot ignore, that the Department of Homeland Security immediately surrender their newly appropriated weapons of war to the Department of Defense (DoD).”
“Significant is the fact,” Captain Hestilow writes, “that at the same time the Obama administration is arming his DHS for war within the limits of the United States against the People of the United States in accordance with his 2008 campaign speech claiming,
— ‘We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve gotta (sic) have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded [as the United States military]‘–Candidate Barack Obama, 2008.” – (bold emphasis added)
“Further, since the DHS has assumed a position in the Administration to enforce the tyrannical acts of this president against the People of the United States against the limits of the United States Constitution, it remains for the United States Congress to exercise its limiting power in the balancing of powers established by our founding fathers, to disestablish and dissolve the DHS as soon as possible,” the retired Captain’s letter continues.
Calling the DHS purchases a “glaring threat of war against our nation’s citizens,” Hestilow says the actions “can only be understood as a tyrannical threat against the Constitution of the United States of America.”
“If left unresolved,” Hestilow states, “the peace loving citizens who have sworn to defend the United States Constitution ‘against all enemies, both foreign and domestic’ are left no option except to prepare to defend themselves, and the U.S. Constitution, against this Administration’s ‘coup’ against the People and the foundations of liberty fought for and defended for the past 238 years. We have no choice if we honor our oaths.”
The former Army Captain cites Adolf Hitler’s rise to power as evidence of the outcome of allowing such an agency free rein, stating,
“One needs only to look to the rise of Adolf Hitler, and his associated DHS organizations, the SA and the SS, of 1932-1934, to see the outcome of allowing an agency of government this kind of control over the free citizens of a nation. The people of Germany could not have imagined, until it was too late, the danger of allowing a tyrant this kind of power. We must not be so naïve as to think it will not happen to us as well if we remain passive toward this power grab by the Marxist Obama administration!”
The post is garnering unprecedented support, according to the retired Captain. Within a day, he says it has received over 3,000 shares, in addition to lassoing in 994 new friend requests. He is also encouraging others to copy and properly amend the letter to send to their own senators and members of the U.S. House.

Critical ammo shortages affect U.S. military stocks
Supply comes from same sources as civilians for training, recreation shooting
WND
F. Michael Maloof
3/24/2013
Excerpt:
The surging nationwide demand for popular rounds of ammunition has virtually eliminated the ability to purchase them in any quantity, thereby affecting firearms training and recreational shooting across the country, as well as the supply of ammunition to the U.S. military which relies on commercial manufacturers.
“The small-arms ammunition situation in this country is currently very bad,” said John Farnam, who runs Defense Training International.
DTI provides training in defensive weapons and tactics. As one of the top handgun instructors in the world, Farnam has trained thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement personnel, as well as non-police clients.
He pointed out that such popular rounds as 9mm and .223 calibers (same as NATO 5.56mm) “are virtually unavailable in any kind of quantity.” Both of these rounds are popular for training and are the backbone of what the U.S. military uses.
“The military relies on the retail level for their supply of ammunition and even the military has a problem getting it,” Farnam said.
There are indications that the U.S. military is looking abroad for the components that make up a round.
“Ammo is in waning supply in many parts if the U.S., and [the federal] government is buying all it can get its hands on,” one gun enthusiast told WND. “I recently offered to buy $50,000 worth of once-fired 5.56×45 brass casings from an outfit here in Israel and the answer was ‘No, we have too many buyers.’ Whoa! Stock up while you can,” he warned.
Farnam said the supply of other handgun calibers such as the .45ACP are somewhat more plentiful, but gun shops are heavily rationing purchases to one or two boxes of 50 rounds per box to each person.
Farnam and others also pointed out that people who do reloads are experiencing similar shortages of the elements needed to make a cartridge.
Bullets, brass cartridges, smokeless powder and the primers – elements which comprise the full round – are also hard to find.
Brass cartridges increasingly are becoming a premium since the ingredients that comprise brass, especially copper, are in demand for other uses and are the subject of considerable thefts across the nation due to demand and the lack of supply.
Farnam said that all of these elements, especially the most complex of these components – the primer – similarly is produced by commercial enterprises and their production also is down.
The chronic shortage of components for reloads also is indicative of the limited supply available to commercial producers of bulk ammunition.
He attributes the nationwide run on ammunition to demand stemming from the concerns over limits being sought by gun-control advocates and singles out the Obama administration in particular for pushing this agenda against law-abiding gun owners.
“I have been in the firearms/ammunition distribution business since I left my agency in 1988,” one supplier said, “and I have never seen Americans this desperate to buy anything and everything associated with weapons and effective fighting. The current situation is unprecedented!”
The supplier said that gun, accessory and ammunition manufacturers are ramping up to meet the unprecedented demand but are proceeding cautiously due to the unpredictability of the outcome of current pending legislation and subsequent court decisions.
“No one wants to wake-up one morning, only to discover that he owns a warehouse full of expensive product that has suddenly become illegal,” he said. “So, none of us should expect any species of relief, any time soon!”
Farnam said the situation isn’t going to get any better.
“With the volatile international situation, militaries around the world will continue to demand, and consume, every round of small-arms ammunition that can be produced,” he said. “Jittery government agencies get the rest. We peons get what falls through the cracks!
“In the training business, we are having to moderate ammunition consumption during Courses, as students are unable to get their hands of quantities necessary to expend it at former rates,” he said. “In addition, everyone wants to retain adequate personal stashes, as it is impossible to know when, and to what degree, they can be returned to ‘normal.’”
He also referred to the recent run on ammunition purchases from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security which has accumulated some 1.6 billion rounds which DHS spokesman says is for training of law-enforcement entities which come under the department.
However, rough calculations suggest that despite the training, the DHS would have something like a 24-year supply of ammunition on hand. These purchases are in addition to other law-enforcement equipment for tactical police teams.
In recent days, DHS officials, including Secretary Janet Napolitano, have refused to tell inquiring congressmen why the department needs so much ammunition and tactical equipment, given sequestration in which all U.S. government agencies are to cut back spending.
Because of DHS’ run on ammunition, sources say that it is leaving local law-enforcement agencies “high and dry” in their ability to obtain it for their own use and training.
In some locations, sheriff’s departments are issuing fewer rounds when practicing at the range.
“The concern over firearms availability and ammunition availability and potentials of gun control certainly has impacted the availability of ammunition purchased locally,” a Hamilton County, Tenn., sheriff’s training coordinator told Fox News.
As with private purchasers, a number of police departments and sheriff’s offices are experiencing a shortage especially in .223 cal. for their AR-15s, thereby limiting training.
Farnam said that the run on supplies isn’t limited to ammunition alone. It also affects virtually all varieties of firearms.
One large Midwest retailer said he’s never seen such a “feeding-frenzy” and never thought such a thing were even possible.
“I’ve watched our entire inventory sell out over the past few weeks, and our pace of resupply doesn’t come close to keeping up,” he said.

AND THAT AIN ‘ T THE WHOLE STORY . BY USING UP SUCH A HUGE SUPPLY OF AMMUNITION , THE STINKING FEDS ARE DENYING IT TO THE POLICE AND GENERAL PUBLIC . IT REMINDS ONE OF THE RIDICULOUS ‘ PONZI ‘ SCHEME ATTEMPTED BY BUNKER HUNT ( THE CATCHUP KING ) WHEN HE AND SOME OF HIS FRIENDS TRIED TO BUY ALL THE SILVER AND THEN PROFIT FROM A MAJOR SHORTAGE .
ARNOLD CARL TAPP wrote:
I definitely agree with you regarding the significant market ramifications of the Feds purchasing so much ammunition, overlooking for a moment the far more SERIOUS POTENTIAL THREAT OF THOSE PURCHASES TO THE LIVES OF MANY AMERICAN CITIZENS!
Your views on the activities of Nelson Bunker Hunt and his brother, William Herbert Hunt relating to the run up in the price of silver back in 1980 is the ‘MSM promoted’ story, and is consequently shared by many.
However, I was closely following the silver market then and I do NOT agree with this interpretation.
I think the article linked below gives a more accurate description of what REALLY HAPPENED in the silver commodity market back in 1980:
http://www.minyanville.com/businessmarkets/articles/silver-bubble-silver-silver-price-hunt/5/25/2011/id/34775
The following is a pertinent quote from the article:
(Mike) … still ardently believes today that the Hunts got a raw deal, and that their only crime was to be right about the long-term attractiveness of silver as an inflation hedge. Nelson made one of the great asset allocation calls of all time and was punished severely for it. There never was any intention to manipulate markets. As far as he knew, the Hunts never paid more than the $20 handle for silver, and that all of the buying that took it up to $50 was nothing more than retail froth.
Through the lens of 20/20 hindsight, Mike views the entire experience as a morality tale, a warning of what happens when you step on the toes of the wrong people. – (bold emphasis added)
It was becoming very obvious to me, even as far back as the seventies and eighties, that there exisited some very powerful and influential people who could manipulate the government into taking actions beneficial to them personally, at the expense of the broad American Public.

DHS To Buy 360,000 More Rounds of Hollow Point Ammunition
Arms build-up continues as Congress demands answers
Infowars.com
Paul Joseph Watson
3/25/2013
Excerpt:
While the Department of Homeland Security continues to ignore members of Congress demanding to know why the federal agency is engaged in an apparent arms build-up, the DHS has just announced it plans to purchase another 360,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition to add to the roughly 2 billion bullets already bought over the past year.
The DHS has now purchased over 2 billion rounds of ammo.
A solicitation on the Federal Business Opportunities website details the DHS’ plan to purchase 360,000 rounds of “Commercial leaded training ammo (CLTA) Pistol .40 caliber 165 grain, jacketed hollow point.” The bullets are to be delivered to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, the same destination for 240,000 hollow point rounds which were purchased only last month.
Although the DHS has attempted to explain its mammoth purchase of ammunition by claiming the bullets are being acquired in bulk to save money and that they are for training purposes only, this has been disputed by reputable voices such as former Marine Richard Mason, who told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”
Hollow point bullets are almost twice as expensive as full metal jackets, therefore the DHS’ explanation that it is buying huge quantities in bulk to “save money” doesn’t make sense.
As we reported yesterday, concerns about the apparent arms build-up are growing, with retired United States Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow sending a letter to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) warning that the ammo purchases represent “a bold threat of war by that agency (DHS), and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America.”
Questions from members of Congress about why the federal agency is buying up ammo, exacerbating shortages across the country, have been met with silence.
