  1. Bruce says:

… there is not even a pretense of a right to higher education in this country. The 43 million Americans who owe some $1.3 trillion in student loan debt were offered zero forgiveness. In fact, Obama does not propose even one measure to actually lessen the ever-escalating cost of college or encroach on the lucrative business of student loan debt. All the “rights” remain in the hands of the government, the banks and hedge funds. – (bold emphasis added)

I don’t agree with the ‘World Socialists’ that there is a RIGHT to higher education in the U.S.A.

No RIGHT (as exemplified in our ‘Bill of Rights’) should require that the government threaten FORCE to taxpayers to fund that so-called right for someone else, and this is what would occur with the Federal Government funding of higher education.

Also, many colleges are now spending a considerable amount of time just teaching remedial coursework that should have been covered and mastered by the students in our FREE Secondary Schools.

Far too many of our current high school students are totally lacking in discipline and simply wasting their time and their school’s time and resources. Why start sending them on to free college to continue the expensive charade.

Too many unqualified (due to either temperament or sub-par intelligence) individuals attending college on student loans have gotten themselves hopelessly in debt and simultaneously raised costs for everyone else attending college who are seriously attempting to further their education.

Socialism is not about sharing the wealth, it’s all about CONTROLLING THE WEALTH, with those in control taking a big cut of the funds being handled.

“New York Fed economists have shown that for the 2009 cohort of graduates, only 17 percent of their original debt had been paid down after five years,” said Dudley. “More than 20 percent of high-balance student borrowers owe more now than when they graduated in 2009. For the 2005 cohort of graduates, only 38 percent of their original student debt had been paid down, on average, nearly ten years after graduation.”

With student loan debt surpassing credit card debt and the only form of debt that continued to grow between 2008 and 2013, the effect on overall financial stability of growing defaults and slow repayments is a concern to the Federal Reserve.

These considerations put into context the policies of a section of the Democratic Party who posture as defenders of indebted students, but are loyal advocates for the financial industry.

Small, start-up businesses can be a very important source of entry level jobs. Very few of the above-described, heavily-indebted students will be financially capable of starting their own businesses upon graduation. Very sad for everyone!

This appears to be just another, in a long list of examples, of:

“I’m from the Obama Administration and I’m here to help you (you stupid, naive schmuck)!” – LOL

You’ve laid out some good and thought-provoking points.
